How we can support you
The Medical Workforce Team will provide you with end to end support during the recruitment process, including assistance with your AHPRA registration, college (if required) and visa nomination process. Including any questions you may have about relocation, rotations, leave, orientation and transition to Melbourne and Australia.
Medical Registration
Medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is required for all IMGs wishing to practice medicine in Australia. There are four pathways that an IMG may be eligible for; competent authority pathway, standard pathway, specialist pathway or the short-term training in a medical specialty pathway.
Our IMGs are typically eligible for either the competent authority pathway or short-term training in a medical specialty pathway.
Our dedicated team will provide end-to-end support to all IMGs who are successful in being offered a position at our health service. We start this process at least 6 months before you are due to commence.
For more information around obtaining medical registration as an IMG, visit the Medical Board IMG webpage.
Visa
The 407 training visa is Alfred Health’s preferred visa for sponsoring International Medical Graduates (IMGs). It is an employer sponsored visa that is intended for improving skills, gaining knowledge and experience for a contracted period with Alfred Health. When approved, you will be granted this visa for 13 months, which is effective from the day of arrival into Australia. This allows the IMG to settle in before commencing work.
For more information on the 407 training visas, visit the Australian Government Immigration and Citizenship, Training Visa webpage.
