Clinical & structured support

Alfred Health offers clinical and structured support to all nurses in their Graduate Nurse Program.

Supernumerary Time

As part of your orientation program, supernumerary time with your Preceptor will be provided and varied according to your individual needs.

Preceptorship

You will be assigned a ward Preceptor - a resource and support person who will assist in your orientation to your clinical area during the initial months.

Clinical Support Nurse (CSN)

The role of the Clinical Support Nurse (CSN) is to provide support throughout the entire 12 months of your graduate program.

The CSN's are covering Mon - Fri shifts to provide clinical support to graduates to help with the early integration & delivery of safe patient care for the beginning practitioner.

Clinical Support & Development Nurse (CS&DN)

The CS&DN works within a designated wards & provides support & guidance during your graduate year. The CS&DN possesses specialist knowledge about the patient population within their ward area so can assist in the development of the graduate nurse throughout the GNP.

Nurse Educators (NE's)

Nurse Educators are also aligned to most ward areas & are available to support and educate all nursing staff who work within clinical areas. An additional part of the role of the NE is to facilitate education programs within Nursing Education.

Clinical objectives

Clinical objectives/hurdles will be set throughout the year to ensure you meet general goals as a registered nurse. Ward specific objectives will also ensure you meet the clinical needs of specific clinical areas.

Core Clinical Tute Study day

Graduates attend a Core Tute study day within the first few weeks of the GNP to refresh and expand your clinical knowledge and skills in selected areas to help with your early transition within Alfred Health.

Clinical Tutorials

Clinical tutorials are conducted online weekly to enable graduates at all campuses to participate. These are interactive sessions that cover current topics, sharing stories, reflective & wellbeing practices to enhance the development of graduates by self-analysis and evaluation of professional learning.

Study Days

The Graduate Nurse Program has a number of scheduled study days which are facilitated by the Nurse Educators and Clinical Support Nurses. These study days allow time to further develop and utilise the skills and learning derived from the clinical tutorials and clinical practice.
