What is the Patient Experience Survey?

The Patient Experience Survey (PES) was developed by Alfred Health to measure all aspects of the patient experience. We ask a range of questions about respect, compassion, access, communication, clinical care, family involvement and overall experience.

Results from this survey are reported to Alfred Health Executive and Board. Managers and staff use information from the survey to improve care for patients.

What does the survey involve?

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and consists of:

  • a short section about you
  • some set questions about 8 key aspects of care, and
  • some targeted 'area of focus' questions that change every 3 months

The survey will guide you through each section and can be completed using your phone, tablet or computer.

How will my information be kept private?

The survey is completely anonymous and we cannot identify you from any of the information you provide.

I recently completed the survey, do I need to do it again?

If you have completed the survey, you do not have to do so again. You may have been surveyed by one of our trained volunteers in the hospital or over the phone.

If you have used a different service or have had another experience since, you might like to tell us about this and take the survey again.

What happens to the results from the survey?

We use your feedback to help us make changes and improvements to our services and the quality of care we provide. Your feedback enables us to take immediate action when a problem is identified and shows how effective the change or improvement has been.

I have some feedback about the survey, who should I contact?

The Patient Experience Survey is managed by the Patient Experience and Consumer Emgagement team. If you have any feedback about the survey please email community.participation@alfred.org.au

Who do I contact if I need help completing the survey?

If you need assistance completing the survey, please email community.participation@alfred.org.au

If you prefer, we can arrange for one of our trained volunteers to call you and to complete the survey over the phone, or if you speak another language, with a telephone interpreter.
