Emergency Short Stay Unit development underway
Construction of a single-story Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU) is underway at Sandringham Hospital.
The new modular building follows the announcement that the hospital has become a Rapid Access Hub, and will support the increase in surgical activity on the site.
Director of Nursing and Operations Sharon Hade said the development will give the team more vital space to provide care.
"The new Emergency Short Stay Unit will expand our emergency department - enabling greater support for patients requiring a short admission, while freeing up space for our growing general medical and surgical programs."
Work to prepare the front of the hospital for construction – close to the Edward Street entry – has commenced, with regular updates to be provided as the build progresses. The structure is expected to be completed by August 2022.
We are pleased to continue investing in the care we deliver to the those living in Bayside and surrounds.
