Visiting Baringa
Visitors are welcome at Baringa and we encourage family members to take note of our visiting hours and learn more about your rights to information.
Please feel free to visit between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm.
Visiting outside these hours can be arranged with the Nurse Manager or the nurse in charge of the shift.
We encourage families to take this time as respite because the period leading up to admission may have been challenging. You are welcome to discuss some strategies to look after yourself with the Baringa Carer Consultant.
Visitors are welcome to visit during mealtimes to encourage and assist patients with their meals. However, it is best if there is only one visitor at these times. If having a visitor present disrupts the patient while they are eating, visitors may be asked not to visit during mealtimes
Our contact details
If you wish to speak with the clinical team, please call Baringa on (03) 9076 6395.
Medical staff are generally available during business hours.
You are welcome to leave your number and the best time to return your call so that someone from the clinical team answers your questions as soon as possible.
There are often several family members involved in their relative’s care. Please nominate one person to ring Baringa during your relative’s admission if updates are required. This nominated person can provide updates to other family members/friends.
Your rights to information
Alfred Health believes it is important to include families and/or partners in each individual’s care and makes every effort to do so. However, sometimes a patient may request that the team not give out information about specific details to do with their treatment.
As your relative has the right to medical confidentiality, we make every attempt to respect their wishes. There are exceptions to this. We must inform the family or partner if we are concerned that the patient is at imminent risk to themselves or someone else. In addition, the primary carer has the right to know about their medical condition and treatment plan.
You are welcome to contact Baringa any time to ask the clinical team about your relative or friend’s overall well-being. Where multiple relatives/friends are involved, one person is requested to be the first contact for Baringa. This person can pass on patient information to the other people involved.
It would also be helpful for the treating team to receive any information you feel would contribute to their care.
