Dr Chris Anthony

MD PhD

Dr Anthony is an advanced multi-modality cardiac imaging and general cardiologist with an interest in Structural Echocardiography, Cardiac MRI, Cardiac CT and Pericardial Disease.

Chris undertook his Basic Physician and Cardiology training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and subsequently completed a PhD in Cardiac MRI based Tissue Characterization Techniques in the Assessment of the Cardiac Allograft at the Victor Chang Cardiac Institute through UNSW, supported by scholarships from the National Heart Foundation and Australian Government Research Training Program.

His work was awarded the President’s Prize and Early Career Research Award of the Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand in 2019 and was selected as a finalist for the Ralph Reader Clinical Prize of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand in 2020. His first in world study demonstrated that a Cardiac MRI based 'Virtual Biopsy' technique for the surveillance of heart transplant rejection was safe and effective in the first-year post-transplant and was published in Circulation. Upon the conclusion of his doctoral thesis, he completed a two-year advanced multi-modality cardiac imaging fellowship in Structural Echocardiography, Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI at the Cleveland Clinic Ohio, where he was selected as the inaugural Ellen H & F Gene Braun Fellow. Chris is a Staff Specialist in Cardiology at the Alfred Hospital. His interests include Advanced Multimodality Cardiac Imaging, Structural Cardiac Imaging and CMR based tissue characterisation techniques in the assessment of Myo-Pericardial diseases.
