Our Executive Team is responsible for operational decisions, the strategic direction of the health network and for reviewing performance. 

Mr Adam Horsburgh
Chief Executive

Adam joined Alfred Health as Chief Executive in August 2024, bringing with him a deep understanding of healthcare across Victoria’s public sector.

Prior to Alfred Health, he was Chief Executive of Austin Health for four years. He has held other senior roles serving as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Melbourne Health as well as the Chief Operating Officer for Southern Health (now Monash Health) at Monash Medical Centre.

Adam has held senior policy and advisory roles with the Victorian Government’s Department of Premier and Cabinet and Department of Health (DH), where he was the Director of Performance and System Design. In addition, he has international health experience through various operational management roles in the UK’s National Health Service.

Mr Horsburgh’s areas of interest include health equity, quality service delivery and positive organisational culture.

Prof Simone Alexander
Deputy Chief Executive/Chief Operating Officer

Simone has more than 25 years’ experience in the healthcare sector.

As the Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer at Alfred Health, her role is responsible for the management and performance of Alfred Health’s clinical operations.

As a Registered Nurse by profession Simone has an extensive clinical background in perioperative nursing and clinical leadership of many areas including The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital’s Emergency Departments, ICU, Hyperbaric, Surgical Services, Cardiology, General Medicine, Neurosciences, Hospital in the Home and inpatient wards.  Most recently leading the organisation through the COVID pandemic she has demonstrated the ability to deliver quality innovative healthcare that is agile, flexible and compassionate. Simone offers a strong track record of leading teams, delivering programs, engaging stakeholders and influencing productive outcomes for organisations while ensuring quality of care.

Simone holds Master’s Degrees in Health Management and in Clinical Nursing, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is currently completing the Executive Leadership Certificate in Public Health at Harvard University.

Mr Kemsley Fairhurst
Chief Financial Officer (interim)

As Chief Financial Officer (interim), Kemsley oversees financial governance, strategic sourcing, supply chain, payroll and property management at Alfred Health, focusing on sustainability and optimal allocation of resources to enhance the provision of public health services to all Victorians.

With over 28 years of experience in multinational and complex organisations across the healthcare, technology, and manufacturing sectors, Kemsley has a proven track record of improving financial performance and supporting organisational change.

Previously he was the Chief Financial Officer at Austin Health and has worked in senior positions at the Victorian Government’s Department of Health, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Health.

Kemsley is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Passionate about fostering high-performance teams, he is committed to driving innovation and operational excellence.

Prof Stephen Jane
Director, Research

As the Director of Research, Stephen Jane is responsible to the Chief Executive for the strategic direction and governance of research at Alfred Health.

As an experienced haematologist, Stephen has a strong interest in translational research and, through his role, was a key player in Alfred Health's efforts in establishing an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC).

The goal of the AHSC is to help foster the links that bring the basic science of Monash into the clinical research sphere of The Alfred, in order to benefit patients as quickly as possible.

Stephen joined Alfred Health in 2011 following 10 years as head of one of the country's foremost bone marrow research laboratories at Royal Melbourne Hospital - a group of researchers he has brought with him to The Alfred.

Dr Tony Kambourakis
Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director Medical Services

As Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director Medical Services, Tony’s areas of responsibility include Medical Workforce, Medical Education, the Clinical Governance Unit and Pharmacy.

Tony is a medical specialist dual-qualified in emergency medicine and medical administration and joined Alfred Health as Director Medical Services in 2016. Prior to this, he was the Director of Emergency Medicine at Monash Medical Centre.

With extensive clinical experience, and expertise in clinical governance, patient safety, and medical workforce development, Tony is committed to positioning Alfred Health at the forefront of clinical service delivery, education, and research.

He is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, and is an adjunct senior lecturer with Monash University’s School of Translational Medicine.

He is a member of the Board of Censors of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, a member of the Victorian Medical Council and a Board Director at Peninsula Health.

Ms Ursula McGinnes
Executive Director, Public Affairs & Communication

As Executive Director, Public Affairs & Communication, Ursula is responsible for external affairs, media relations, internal communications, community engagement, corporate communications as well as digital and creative services

She also runs the Secretariat for the Alfred Research Alliance, a collaboration between research institutes, universities and biomedical specialists across the Alfred Precinct.

Ursula has 30 years’ experience in strategy, policy, and public affairs. She has worked as an executive and consultant for public and private organisations including V/Line, WMC, Alumina Limited, Australia Post and ANZ. She has also lectured in the University of Melbourne’s Master of Global Media Communication program and served as a director on Mentone Girls Grammar’s Fundraising Board.

Currently, Ursula is a Board Director for Mayflower, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the wellbeing of the older community.

Ms Amy McKimm
Chief Digital Health Officer

As Chief Digital Health Officer, Ms McKimm is responsible for supporting Alfred Health through its digital transformation.

This includes the strategic use of data and systems so clinical care at the bedside is performed with all the information required for excellence.

IDD covers all aspects of IT infrastructure and support, projects, applications development, security, privacy, and the ongoing development of the electronic medical record which is a strategic focus for the organisation.

Ms McKimm recently lead Alfred Health’s electronic Timely Quality Care (eTQC) Program which went live in October 2018.

She has worked in a number of clinical and operational roles in health services in Australia and the United Kingdom and in 2018, completed Leadership Victoria’s Williamson Leadership Program.

Ms McKimm’s interest is in using technology, data and digital platforms to support healthcare to adapt and change in order to better meet the needs of patients and the broader community.

Ms Louise Vecchi
Chief People Officer (interim)

As Chief People Officer (interim), Louise is responsible for human resources, organisational development as well as occupational health and safety.

Louise has a clinical background along with extensive experience in public health care. She has over 20 years in human resources management, including senior HR and Employee Relations roles within the Victorian public healthcare sector. Louise has industrial/employee relations expertise and has been closely involved in enterprise bargaining. She has worked at the Alfred since 2014.

Louise has a proven track record in developing and implementing people and culture strategies that align with organisational goals. Skilled in providing high-level strategic advice and support to executives, she is experienced in fostering strong leadership capabilities and driving employee engagement. Louise is committed to excellence in health service delivery, focusing on safety, compliance, and effective HR practices.

Ms Jenny Walsh
Executive Director, Strategy and Planning

As Executive Director, Strategy and Planning, Ms Walsh is responsible for ensuring Alfred Health has a clear future direction through our Strategic Plan.

She has direct responsibility for Alfred Health’s service planning and capital and infrastructure functions including the Major Capital Project, Victorian Melanoma and Clinical Trials Centre.

These functions are central to providing clinical and other corporate programs with a safe, efficient and effective operating environment. Ms Walsh is also responsible for the leadership and management of the organisation’s Outpatients Program.

Ms Walsh has held a number of senior management positions across the Queensland and Victorian public health systems. Her experience and interests lie in strategic planning and system design, creating opportunity to influence, transform and redesign systems and processes in response to changing health system environments.

Prof Ged Williams
Chief Nursing Officer and Executive Director of Nursing

Ged has over 40 years in the healthcare sector and commenced in this role in March 2023.

Ged is responsible for leadership and oversight of nursing, midwifery, allied health and related support services to ensure Alfred Health continues to provide high quality and safe health care to the many communities we serve. He has worked in similar roles throughout Australia and abroad.

Ged has qualifications in nursing, midwifery, critical care (obtained at Alfred Hospital in 1989), public sector management, health administration, corporate governance, and law, and holds adjunct appointments with a number of universities as well as external board responsibilities related to nursing and healthcare.
