Associate Professor Justin Mariani is a consultant Cardiologist and interventional Heart Failure Specialist, and is Head of Pacing at The Alfred.

A/Prof Justin Mariani is a cardiologist specialising in heart failure, cardiac devices, and complex haemodynamic assessment.

He is Head of Pacing at The Alfred, where he leads implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronisation devices, and supervises advanced training through the Pacing Fellowship Program he established. He is actively involved in procedural training, pacing electrophysiology, and right heart catheterisation, including exercise and complex haemodynamic studies.

A/Prof Mariani consults in the Advanced Heart Failure and Pacemaker Clinics. He has clinical and research interests in device-based therapy for heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiomyopathies. He has led and participated in device trials, including first-in-human studies, and has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He is affiliated with the Heart Failure Research Group at the Baker Institute and holds an academic appointment in Translational Medicine at Monash University.

He completed his cardiology training at The Alfred, followed by a PhD at Monash University and the Baker Institute, and a postdoctoral fellowship in interventional heart failure in Toronto, Canada.

He serves on several national and global cardiac device technology advisory boards and is a regularly invited speaker at conferences.

He is also Clinical Lead in Cardiology at Bairnsdale, where, in 2006, he established a major outreach service linked to Alfred Health.
