A/Prof Justin Mariani is a consultant cardiologist.
A/Prof Justin Mariani was trained as a specialist cardiologist in Melbourne at The Alfred, and then completed a PhD at Monash University and the Baker Institute. This was followed with a Pacing Fellowship at The Alfred, and then an Post-Doctoral Interventional Heart Failure Fellowship in Toronto, Canada.
His expertise is in all fields of cardiology, but he has special interest and training in heart failure and cardiomyopathies, surgical implantation and follow-up of devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators, and clinical and research interest in haemodynamics (pressure), heart failure and heart rhythm abnormalities in heart failure patients.
At The Alfred, A/Prof Mariani is involved with pacemaker/ICD/CRT implants and right heart catheterisation procedures, including active supervision of Fellows and Registrars. He also consults in the Heart Failure Clinic and the Pacemaker Clinic.
Beyond The Alfred, A/Prof Mariani is Clinical Lead in Cardiology at Bairnsdale, having established this service in 2006, and, with his colleagues, forging the well established link for patients from East Gippsland with The Alfred Heart Centre. He is also the visiting cardiologist to Peter Mac’s Late Effects Clinic (for cancer treatment-related heart issues), is an active member of the Heart Failure Research Group, Baker Institute, and an Adjunct Associate Professor through the Central Clinical School, Monash University. He is a committee member of the Heart Rhythm Council of Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and a member of the Australia and New Zealand Device Advisory Committee.
