The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides laboratory services to The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals. We also receive referral work from other public and private pathology laboratories as well from local GPs.

Clinical service overview

Our laboratory is NATA accredited and complies with the requirements of ISO 15189:2012, Medical Laboratories – Requirements for Quality and Competence.

For practices that regularly refer pathology testing, it is possible to download results automatically to your information system. Contact Joe D’Agostino for more information.

We offer a range of diverse services, including:

Pathology Handbook

Tube guide for common test.

Order of draw guide.

Clinical research

APS actively supports clinical research. We can provide testing for sponsored drug trials, NHMRC and grant-funded research, both within Alfred Health and for external clients.

In addition to core laboratory analysis, APS offers a select range of specialised test services at competitive rates. We provide very high quality testing and are always receptive to individual instances where an instrument and/or method may be reviewed with the relevant Principal Scientist.

APS has an excellent reputation for service delivery and the Clinical Trials Coordinator will be able to coordinate your pathology requirements, liaising with laboratory and IT staff, to ensure your requirements are met for all areas of analysis, reporting, and any storage needs. Each trial is allocated a unique client reference, and pathology request slips are tailored to the trial’s collection requirements.

Where no local laboratory testing is required, we can offer a sampling preparation and handling service for dispatch to the next laboratory.

Routine information concerning test reference ranges, minimum patient ID (or de-identified ID if applicable), sample collection instructions, registration audits, freezer and centrifuge records are available at any time on request.
