What we do

Our service has three key priorities:

  • medication safety by ensuring that you receive or take the right medications, at the right time and at the right dose through education to you and your family, and communicating with your community pharmacist with any changes to your medication regime
  • cost effective use of medicines
  • delivery of specialist pharmacy expertise at critical points in your healthcare journey

Outpatient medication service

Patients can now order their prescription medication from The Alfred Outpatient Pharmacy online.

By completing our secure online form, you can request your prescription medication to be posted to you via Australia Post, or available for pick-up.

You will be able to keep track on your medication thanks to our SMS alert system.

Ensuring you know how to take your medication safely remains paramount, and a pharmacist will contact you if you have any questions regarding your online order.

Commonly asked questions

What medications should I bring to hospital?

Bring all of your medications with you. Your hospital pharmacist will need to know which medications you are taking including medications bought from your local pharmacy, supermarket, health food store or other source, including herbal and 'alternative' remedies.

Will I be charged for medications?

You will not be charged for medications supplied to you as an inpatient.

When you are discharged from the hospital, the doctor may write a prescription for you. This will be dispensed by your hospital pharmacist and will incur the same PBS co-payment as community pharmacies. The amount you pay, even for non-PBS medications, can contribute to your Safety Net threshold.
