Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is the use of medication to prevent HIV infection in people who are at high risk. This clinic offers appointments for assessment and management of PrEP. The clinic also provides consultations to people who are not eligible for Medicare and are seeking access to PrEP (PrEPMe).

What we do

Nurse-led clinics

PrEP nurses run clinics on Monday and Tuesday and Friday each week.

Medical specialist clinic

A sexual health specialist has a Wednesday clinic each week.

This clinic is only available to people with Medicare or visitors from countries with reciprocal healthcare agreements. 

How to access this Clinic

You do not need a referral for this clinic.

The PrEPMe Clinic currently has a waiting list of approximately 4 weeks. 

The information below will assist you in accessing PrEP while you are in Melbourne awaiting our service.

  • If you are a university student the student health clinic at your university can see you for PrEP. The appointment and tests are free. You can order your PrEP online through PAN or purchase PrEP from a pharmacy.
  • If you are working you may want to see a GP for PrEP and claim some of the costs of the appointment and tests on your private health cover. You can order your PrEP online through PAN or purchase PrEP from a pharmacy.
  • If you are a college student or unable to afford to see a GP and wish to go onto our waiting list please contact the PrEPMe Clinic. We will be checking the clinic capacity regularly and will open up appointments as soon as we can.
