Prof Peter Cameron
Peter Cameron is the Academic Director of The Alfred Emergency and Trauma Centre.
Peter is also Professor of Emergency Medicine and Divisional Head of Health Services Research at Monash University’s School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
He is also the Chair of the Monash/Alfred Injury Network which brings together in excess of 100 researchers to form one of the most comprehensive academic groups in emergency and trauma globally. He is currently a Chief Investigator on a number of major NHMRC grants and leading clinical quality registries.
Peter is Past President of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and Past President of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine. In these roles Peter has been influential in the development of the emergency medicine specialty globally. Peter has consulted and published on trauma and emergency system development and he has an extensive history of practical involvement in health services planning and analysis. He has been the Director of four major emergency departments in different countries.
Peter has a large research portfolio with over 450 peer-reviewed career publications. He is frequently invited to international meetings as a keynote speaker. His major focus has been in trauma registry development, resuscitation and health services research.
With over 35 year’s medical experience and as a Consultant at The Alfred, Peter delivers clinical expertise and service in emergency medicine. Peter provides supervision to junior medical and other relevant staff within the Department. He also supports Alfred Health’s teaching, research and clinical governance programs and supports the strategic priorities and values of Alfred Health. Peter is passionate about testing the orthodoxy of establishing clinical pathways in Emergency and Trauma medicine and is an active supporter of education and training programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
