Ms Amtur Rafiq
Amtur has been a patient at The Alfred since 2012 and in 2017 underwent a double lung transplant.
Amtur is a Muslim and from a refugee background. She has a strong interest in communication and supporting those where English is not their first language. She worked as a support volunteer at the Southern Migrant Refugee Centre Dandenong from 2018 to 2020 and is currently studying a Diploma in Community Services.
Amtur commenced as an Alfred Health consumer advisor in 2019 and has been actively engaged in the collecting Patient Experience Surveys, Patient Portal Consumer Engagement activities, the Culturally Responsive Clinical Practice Advisory Group (Monash Partners), Patient Information Reference Group and numerous focus groups.
In her application, Amtur advised that she considers The Alfred her second home, stating “it has given me a life to live. I am not able to return this, but all I want to do is stay connected and try to give a little to this hospital.”
