Help us build the future of HIV care
We have provided expert care for people living with HIV in Victoria for the past 25 years. In 2021 we asked the community about their needs and priorities for HIV care and the response is shaping the next generation of care.
Why now?
Much has changed in the world of HIV care and to help us deliver care in the future we wanted to understand the needs and priorities of people living with HIV.
HIV specialist groups including Living Positive Victoria, Thorne Harbour Health and Positive Women Victoria along with the Department of Health were part of this community conversation that included surveys, engagement through social media and ‘kitchen table’ discussions.
Next steps in the project
Alfred Health is developing a new purpose-built facility for inpatient HIV care at The Alfred. The design is being developed by architects based on the feedback from the consultation. It is also being informed by staff and consumer experience through user groups.
Following consultation with the community to finalise the detailed design, which informed the look and feel of the new space, building works will commence shortly.
Updates will be provided on this page as the build progresses and the new building opens in early 2024.
Help us name the new HIV ward
We are now asking patients, community, and staff to help us finalise the name of the new purpose-built HIV ward that will move from Fairfield House to Alfred Lane House next year.
