Why Claire was meant to be a nurse

When Claire Lobb was just three years-old, she wore a nursing outfit to Christmas lunch.

“I’ve still got that photo of me,” she says.

Claire knew she was going to become a nurse, and it’s a career she says she’ll do forever.

“I think it was something I was just meant to do. I’ll do it until I retire,” she says.

Claire now has more than 16 years' experience working in Emergency Departments all over Australia.

As a Nurse Practitioner in The Alfred’s Emergency Department, Claire predominantly works in the fast-track area seeing patients with minor injuries and illnesses.

She believes Nurse Practitioners bring strong communication and education to patients, making them feel safe during their stay.

“Honesty is the key. I want my patients and their families to know what is happening during their care.”

Claire says the best thing about her role is knowing that she’s made a difference to someone’s life.

“Knowing I’ve done right by someone and helping that person in a time of need is an incredible feeling,” she says.
