Rose’s first graduate year at The Alfred

When Rose Phan took on a graduate role at The Alfred, she did not know what to expect. Rose had spent both of her graduate rotations on Ward 5 East on The Alfred’s respiratory ward. Although new to the ward, she felt at home right away.

“Everyone was really nice and supportive which made it a lot easier”, Rose says.

It has been the Alfred’s lung transplant patients that have motivated Rose to come into work every-day.

One of the best things about her role is noticing the transformation in her patients.

“Getting to see their whole transformation is great. They go from needing a lot of support and a lot of help to the point where they’re breathing on their own and walking around,” she says.

“That is a really good motivation factor, knowing you are playing a part and contributing to your patients getting better”.

Rose is looking forward to spending more time on the ward and caring for a diverse range of patients.

She says that the support of other nurses and educators has really helped her along the way.

And while her graduate year at The Alfred has been both busy and challenging, she says there’s no better place to start than The Alfred.

“I couldn’t think of a better place to start out my nursing career,” she says.
