Caulfield Hospital volunteer Peter Watson was named Outstanding Adult Volunteer in the Victorian Premier's Volunteer Champions Awards 2015.

The 63-year-old, who has been volunteering for five years, said he was very "humbled" to receive the accolade.

"Being a volunteer at Alfred Health gives me a front-row seat to witnessing the best of humanity. I am grateful to be part of delivering quality health care to the community," he said.

Mr Watson spends around 12 hours a week in multiple roles, including being a ‘pool pal', assisting hydrotherapy patients with exercise routines and in a concierge role, directing patients throughout Caulfield Hospital.

He also surveys patients to measure our patient and family views on the care they receive and where we can improve our services.

Mr Watson, a Caulfield resident for more than 30 years, said he enjoyed supporting patients through their journey in overcoming health issues.

"Volunteering gives me an opportunity to contribute to the community in a meaningful way as well as a chance to personally grow and develop," he said.

"I am thankful to the Alfred Health staff and other volunteers who have mentored and encouraged me over the years."

The Victorian Premier's Volunteer Champions Awards celebrate and recognise the extraordinary contribution of volunteers who commit themselves to making Victoria a better, safer and more connected place to live.
