A/Prof Hitesh Patel

Associate Professor Hitesh Patel is one of the Deputy Directors of Cardiology and Head (since 2024) of the statewide Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant unit at The Alfred in Melbourne.

Hitesh specialises in the management of patients with cardiomyopathies (including hypertrophic, inherited and following chemotherapy) and those with end-stage disease who might benefit from mechanical circulatory supports and heart transplant.

He is also a senior staff specialist in the cardiac rhythm management device team and in implants pacemakers (including conduction system and leadless), cardiac resynchronisation devices and defibrillators (including subcutaneous types),

He graduated in 2005 from Imperial College, London, UK with distinction. His training across five prestigious tertiary centres (across London and Melbourne) has made him a versatile clinician.

He has a strong academic background. He was awarded a PhD and a prize from the National Heart and Lung Institute, London for his work investigating the role of renal denervation in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. He has authored over 70 publications and has presented at both national and international scientific conferences. He is actively involved in investigator as well as industry led research studies.

Finally, Hitesh has extensive teaching experience and is invited to lecture both nationally and internationally.
