Clinical service overview
Our clinic is co-located with neurosurgeons and run by Advanced Practice Physiotherapists liaising closely with the neurosurgery unit.
We provide the initial New Spine assessment and management advice for patients with degenerative spine conditions. These may include radicular pain and radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis where instability is a concern. There is liaison with the medical team to facilitate surgical opinion.

We accept GP and specialist referrals.
The New Spine clinic is part of the Neurosurgery outpatient service. All referrals should be sent to the Neurosurgery service. The service will triage appropriate patients to the New Spine Clinic.
All referrals for degenerative spine conditions must include the completed Spine Assessment attached to the referral.
- To ensure appropriate and timely triage, please include all demographic and clinical details as well as relevant investigation results
- If you are concerned about any delay of the appointment or if there is any deterioration in your patient’s condition, contact the service Registrar on call on (03) 9076 2000 to discuss the case
