Include a Charity Week: Nilanthi’s story

The Alfred has a long history of providing world-leading compassionate care, treating the most complex and life-threatening conditions and working tirelessly to improve the lives of patients and their loved ones. Over a third of the crucial work supported by The Alfred Foundation is only made possible by the wonderful gifts in Wills we receive. That’s why we are one of over 90 Australian charities working together as part of the Include a Charity campaign to inspire more of our supporters to include a gift to The Alfred in their Wills.

Nilanthi is a patient and passionate long-time supporter of The Alfred hospital. She suffers from severe allergies, which if left untreated, can cause her great difficulties. Nilanthi feels incredibly grateful for the compassionate care and specialist treatment she has received at The Alfred over the years.

“Healthcare is a basic right that can be easily taken for granted, the care provided to me goes far beyond the basics,” she said. “I know The Alfred treats the most critically ill patients and I’m lucky that neither my loved ones nor I have required such a high level of specialist care. I also know that anything can happen to anyone at any time, including myself or someone close to me. This is why I support The Alfred and the reason I’m inspired to think of its future.”

Caring and contributing to the welfare of others is just part of Nilanthi’s ethos. When she’s not spending time with her pets, gardening or catching up with her two children, she works for a healthcare provider supporting people with disability to live a great life. 

She has seen first-hand the difficulties and impacts COVID-19 has had on caring for people. This has reinforced Nilanthi’s commitment to ensure The Alfred continues providing care for future generations, whenever it’s needed.

“I often say to people who are considering remembering their favourite charities with a gift in their Will that it doesn’t need to be a huge amount. Including a gift of as little as 1% of your estate can make such a difference to the causes you feel passionately about supporting.”
