Life Support dazzle and do good at the Portsea Polo
Thank you to The Alfred’s Life Support Committee and all their generous guests for another extraordinary day at the 2019 Portsea Polo.
Initially formed following the devastation of the Bali Bombings, Life Support's founding members were united by a shared philanthropic vision to help the hospital minimise the devastating impact of trauma on the community.
Fifteen years later, the group continues to support The Alfred through various exciting events; none more so than the annual Portsea Polo. The iconic coastal region turned on the charm and provided revellers with a magnificent day.
With generous support from NAB, The Alfred Foundation marquee drew on the surrounds of Point Nepean National Park treating guests to a glamorous afternoon of fine food, summer fashion, and exciting polo play. Attendees had amazing weather as they enjoyed an unforgettable day, knowing that funds raised would support critical care at The Alfred.
All proceeds from the day will go towards supporting the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) specifically helping to purchase a new mobile CT scanner. When you are facing the worst, you need the very best in lifesaving technology.
The Alfred has the biggest and busiest ICU in Australasia and cares for some of the country’s sickest patients.
A mobile CT scanner will speed up lifesaving diagnosis and treatment by giving doctors much faster access to the information they need to save the lives of vulnerable patients.
“Every minute counts in the ICU. With a mobile CT scanner, we can bring the machine to the patient. This will save time – meaning better outcomes and more lives saved.” Dr. Steve McGloughlin, Director of The Alfred’s Intensive Care Unit.
As a charity partner of the Portsea Polo, The Alfred was also given the opportunity to sell the official event caps – with all proceeds going towards the ICU.
A big thank you to the hospital’s emergency, trauma and ICU staff who generously volunteered their time to sell the hats to the thousands of guests in attendance – giving everyone the chance to buy a lasting memento of the day as well as show their support for The Alfred.
