The Alfred6Hour Race
The Alfred6Hour charity mountain bike race has been run and won for 2017. Taking place late September, the event assembled many of Victoria’s most avid mountain bike riders – unified by one, common goal: to raise money to help The Alfred purchase the latest, life-saving equipment.
For the fourth consecutive year the race was held in the picturesque, northern Victorian town of Bright, and attracted over 180 eager riders, who collectively rode a whopping 889 laps of the gruelling circuit (equating to more than 5867 kilometres).
Riders participated across many categories – from solo races to team events. Even junior riders were catered for, with the next generation of mountain bike fanatics turning out in force for the popular ‘gromit races’.
Local paramedic, and passionate rider, Ross Walker is the brains behind the community event – and he recently said he couldn’t have been happier with the 2017 carnival.
“For yet another year, the race has grown in popularity… we actually had a record number of participants,” he said. “It was so pleasing to get such a degree of community support and active involvement. This allowed us to reach our fundraising target of $15,000 – all of which will go towards supporting The Alfred.”
Funds raised in 2017 will be used to purchase a cardiac monitor for The Alfred’s new trauma service expansion. The new facility will give trauma patients the best opportunity to make a full recovery as well as offer their families more opportunities to be included in their loved one’s recovery process.
The Alfred extends a special thank you to Ross and everyone who was involved in running the event, as well as all who participated.
