Trio donate their birthdays to The Alfred

20 April 2020

Here at The Alfred Foundation we’d like to shout out our thanks and appreciation to this dream team – Conor, Charlie and Kristian – who donated their birthdays to The Alfred by running an online fundraiser to support The Alfred’s frontline health staff in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic.

All three happen to share the very same birthday - April 8th (although they are all different ages if you’re wondering). While they couldn’t get together physically to celebrate this year they still wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. At the time of writing this article, the terrific trio had achieved their goal and raised over $500 towards supporting frontline nurses, doctors and hospital staff here at The Alfred.

We know it can be a particularly disappointing time for those with a birthday just gone or approaching, who aren’t able to physically share the occasion as usual with their friends and family. However, it has been great to see all the innovative solutions popping up, finding virtual ways to celebrate these occasions with everything from Zoom dress-up parties to Netflix movie nights, to virtual happy hours and more.

Conor, who created and launched the fundraising page, is happy to have the opportunity to do something proactive and give back in these unusual times. He lives just a short walk from the hospital, and knows people who have either been treated or worked at The Alfred.  As Melbourne locals, it was important to Conor and his friends to support the frontline staff they know are taking risks every day to support the community. Kristian himself has been cared for at The Alfred and both he and Charlie also have relatives working there now.

We are so grateful for their generosity and contribution at this time!

If you have a birthday approaching and are interested in this idea of donating your birthday to The Alfred, you can ask friends and family to shout donations to The Alfred in lieu of shouting your drinks or gifts as they may have done.
