View Health Professional Information
Mobile Assessment and Treatment Service (MATS) provides nursing and medical care in your own home environment in place of staying in hospital, and we can also help you to leave hospital sooner by completing your treatment at home.

What we do

We can assess, investigate and manage a wide range of healthcare needs, such as:

  • investigation of fever
  • an acute episode of a chronic disease (for example, fluid overload with heart failure, infection with lung disease)
  • treatment of infection
  • management of your catheter
  • management of your PEG feeding tube
  • wound care
  • pain management
  • development of an Advance Care Plan

MATS is a part of the Hospital Admission Risk Program (HARP) which provides a range of clinical services to help people manage their health in the community.

The MATS team consists of a Consultant Geriatrician, senior doctors, senior nursing staff and an Aged Care Nurse Practitioner.

Who we care for

  • people who have been referred to MATS by their GP
  • people whose care is appropriate and safe to be given at home

What to expect

MATS provide assessment and care in the community in consultation with you, your family, your carer and GP.

Commonly asked questions

Do I have to go to hospital?

We aim to provide your care in the community, but should your condition change, the MATS doctor may advise you to have some of your care in hospital.

Will my GP still come and visit me?

Yes, we keep in close contact with your GP throughout our involvement, and involve the GP in making decisions about your care. Your GP will decide when to visit you.

How often will MATS come to see me?

MATS doctors and nurses will visit you as often as needed, based on your condition and treatment requirements.
