The Malignant Haematology, Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Service cares for patients throughout Victoria with blood cancers.
What we do
We perform both allogeneic (donated stem cells from family or unrelated donors) and autologous (patient’s own stem cells) stem cell transplants. More than 120 bone marrow transplants are performed each year.
We offer diagnosis and care for patients with:
- bone marrow diseases, including leukaemia
- lymphoma - blood cancer
- multiple myeloma and related disorders
- the need for stem cell transplantation
- late effects - ongoing health problems caused by cancer
Achievements
During 2016-17, we performed over 110 stem cell transplants for cancer patients. That included 47 allogeneic (donated cells) and 67 autologous (own cells).
