Gender equity
Gender equality is when people of all genders have access to equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities. Pursuing gender equality benefits everyone.
Gender equality reduces family violence; challenges the stereotypes which constrict us; and delivers equitable opportunity and rights for all people. At an organisational level, gender equality can unlock greater business performance, efficiency and decision making.
Alfred Health’s inaugural Gender Equality Action Plan (2022-2025) has been designed to help us make material progress towards gender equality, in relation to seven key areas where inequality persists. These key areas are called the workplace gender equality indicators. They include:
- Gender composition of the workforce
- Gender composition of governing bodies
- Gender pay equity
- Workplace sexual harassment
- Recruitment and promotion practices
- Leave and flexibility
- Occupational gender segregation
As a requirement under the Victorian Gender Equality Act (2020), every two years, Alfred Health will conduct a workplace gender audit and report on progress to the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector (CGEPS). A progress report must contain the following detail:
- A list and description of the policies, programs and services that were subject to a Gender Impact Assessment;
- Progress made in relation to the strategies set out in our Gender Equality Action Plan; and
- Progress made in relation to the seven workplace gender equality indicators.
Our first progress report was submitted to CGEPS on 20 February 2024, and is now available here.
