Dr Trent Hartshorne
Dr Trent Hartshorne is a heart transplant cardiologist and intensive care physician at the Alfred specialising in the diagnosis and management of patients with advanced heart failure and those requiring mechanical circulatory support.
Dr Hartshorne graduated from Monash University and has over 20 years of medical experience in various hospitals including The Alfred, St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Monash Medical Centre, Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Royal Darwin Hospital and Kings College London. He has worked in a voluntary capacity in Fiji and Uganda.
Dr Hartshorne has been a full-time staff specialist at the Alfred since 2017 and has held the positions of acting head of cardiothoracic intensive care, deputy director of ICU (quality and risk), and is currently the joint head of ICU echocardiography. He is a member of the ICU ECMO service and helps with retrievals of critically ill patients from hospitals throughout Victoria requiring mechanical circulatory support.
Dr Hartshorne has presented at several conferences and teaches on several Alfred courses throughout the academic year including basic and advanced echocardiography, ECMO, difficult airway and mechanical ventilation. He enjoys working at The Alfred in a collaborative team environment to provide the best care for patients and strives to assist patients as much as possible to navigate their way through our large and complex public health care system.
Dr Hartshorne sees patients at The Alfred Heart Failure, Transplantation and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) clinics, and visits Wonthaggi on a regular basis seeing patients in the general cardiology clinic.
