Lifesaving gift for Sean

15 December 2015

Nine year old Sean got his Christmas wish of lifesaving transplant surgery.

Sean now has two new lungs and is recovering so well he is now going home for the holidays.

He was so unwell he required the help of an oxygen pump around-the-clock. His lung disease worsened and he was given hours to live at a Brisbane Hospital.

Donor lungs became available and he was flown to The Alfred for lifesaving surgery.

Head of The Alfred Paediatric Lung Transplant Program, Dr Glen Westall said Sean's new lungs gave him back his young life.

"He really bounced out of the blocks. He was out of the intensive care unit within a week."

Sean's family express their gratitude for the overwhelming support from Alfred-staff and are forever grateful for the donor family's generous gift.
