Remembrance Day 2021
Alfred Health will join other Australians in marking Remembrance Day on November 11.
As The Alfred marks its 150th anniversary, archivist Peter Frawley reflected on the long and respected history support provided by staff during times of conflict.
Mr Frawley said staff continued to serve today knowing their service was required not only in Australia, but also overseas.
“With Remembrance Day it is even better today. Initially it was related to World War One. Nowadays we’ve extended it to recognise Vietnam, World War 2 and peacekeeping in various areas.
“In fact, it is bigger than a military remembrance. It is remembering what humans can do in adversity.”
As well as being a neurosurgeon at The Alfred, Mr Ron Jithoo is a combat neurosurgeon with the RAAF Specialist Reserve. This has included serving in the Middle East.
“Working for The Alfred, as well as working for Australian Defence Force are two ends of the continuum where I am very privileged to serve the community; and that would be the primary foundation – one of service.”
