Clinical service overview
Our Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging service was one of the first in Australia to introduce 3D echocardiography, commencing 3D transthoracic echocardiography in 2006 and 3D transoesophageal echocardiography in 2008.
More recently contrast echocardiography and global longitudinal strain have become available for clinically appropriate cases. The service is also recognised locally and internationally as a centre of excellence in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, with approximately 1,000 CMR scans performed each year.
In addition to its clinical role, The Alfred CMR service is active in many locally established as well as multi-centre research studies, and generates around 10 publications each year, many of which feature in high impact journals. The service is also is accredited to perform and report computed tomographic coronary angiography (CTCA), and has established an off-site CTCA reporting service for regional imaging services.
