Enhancing the Alfred Health Experience
The Peer Support program gives Alfred Health staff an opportunity to be there for their colleagues in times of need.
Enhancing the Alfred Health Experience.
Whether the issue is work or personal, peer supporters – who are trained volunteers - can be there to listen.
Just as providing care to our patients is a priority, so too is the wellbeing of our staff.
Alfred Health staff can reach out to a Peer Supporter on issues such as transitioning to work as a graduate, work relationships and conflict, personal issues, career progression, and navigating Alfred Health.
In addition to supporting their colleagues, staff also gain further skills and knowledge that are transferrable outside of work.
Peer Supporter and Audiologist Jamila Gencarelli said the program helped her feel a sense of belonging and connection to the Alfred Health community.
“Being able to support colleagues during challenging times and seeing the positive impact it has on their well-being has been highly rewarding.”
Speech pathologist Mirosha Manoharan, who is also a Peer Supporter, said the program was important because it ensured staff wellbeing was a prioritised.
“When staff feel heard and supported, it cultivates a positive environment to continue to progress patient care.”
