The Ultrasound Course

Developed for and taught by Emergency Physicians, The Ultrasound Course will provide you with the skills and resources to undertake ultrasound effectively and with confidence.

Experienced trainers will develop your technical and interpretation skills, and enable you to integrate or extend ultrasound use and findings in your practice.

With two workshops available at specific experience levels, The Ultrasound Core Course and The Ultrasound Advanced Course, each course involves a combination of hands-on skills-stations, case-based discussions and lectures.

Multiple dates in 2023.

The Core Course:

This entry-level course will provide you with basic probe handling and manipulation skills. Embark on developing your skills to perform and integrate eFAST and AAA scanning into your daily practice in the ED, Urgent Care Centre, ICU or GP practice.

An introduction to the vascular access module will improve your skills in gaining ultrasound guided peripheral intravenous, arterial and central access.

The Advanced Course:

You will learn how to perform and integrate basic cardiac and lung ultrasound into critically unwell patients.

Topics covered in this module include assessing for a pericardial effusion and tamponade, basic assessment of the LV and RV function, assessing fluid status in the unwell patient and developing your skills in lung ultrasound to assess for pneumothorax, pneumonia, cardiac failure and effusions.

The Advanced Course course includes two pre-course quizzes.

Registration for each course requires approximately 10 hours of pre-reading.
