A/Prof Chris Merry
Associate Professor Chris Merry completed his undergraduate degree at Melbourne University and underwent postgraduate training at St Vincent’s Hospital, The Alfred and Austin Hospital. He undertook an aortic surgery fellowship at the Austin Hospital and has worked as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon since 2008.
In 2010, after 3 years as a consultant in Melbourne he took up a position at Royal Perth and then Fiona Stanley Hospital in Western Australia, as the clinical lead for lung cancer surgery and as a cardiothoracic transplant surgeon. He returned to The Alfred in 2022 as Deputy Director of Cardiothoracic and Transplant surgery.
His special interests include all aspects of lung cancer surgery, particularly minimally invasive (VATS) lung resection including early recovery after surgery programs. He has an interest in heart transplantation and LVAD insertion, mitral valve repair, aortic valve replacement, atrial fibrillation surgery, arterial coronary revascularisation, and aortic procedures. He holds an Associate Professorship at Notre Dame University, Fremantle and teaches and examines medical students at Monash Hospital. He is also on the Board of Cardiothoracic surgery at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
