Dr Leah Iles

PhD, FRACP, MBChB, FCSANZ — Head of Echocardiography

Dr Leah Iles is a cardiologist with a particular interest in non-invasive cardiac imaging and patients with cardiomyopathy (heart failure).

Dr Iles is a cardiologist at The Alfred, where she has worked since 2002. She is currently Head of Echocardiography where she uses her expertise in the field of non-invasive imaging. Dr Iles also consults in the Advanced Heart Failure Outpatient Clinic.

Dr Iles has more than 20 years of specialty training and experience in non-invasive cardiac imaging and has a strong interest in both cardiac MRI and echocardiography. She completed her PhD in the use of non-invasive imaging to assess myocardial fibrosis and is widely published in her field. Her doctoral work included the development of a novel MRI technique to quantify myocardial fibrosis in patients with heart failure. This paper has been cited >900 times and lead to numerous future research projects in the department and worldwide. She has presented at both national and international meetings to both report her original research and as an invited expert speaker.

Dr Iles has a longstanding interest in education and supervises registrars, residents and fellows within the hospital.
