Fit testing
As per OSHA and Department of Health guidance, Alfred Health requires all staff, volunteers, external contractors and students to have appropriate and up-to-date N95 mask fit testing records prior to entering any area with potential respiratory hazards. This includes anyone working in or visiting any clinical area in the hospital.
Fit tests can be conducted by the Alfred Health Respiratory Protection Program (RPP), or via an external service and providing your fit test record to the RPP team to review and verify results (and to upload to your eHub).
Retesting
Fit testing results have to reviewed annually for all staff working or visiting clinical areas. Staff also requires to get retested if they experience any of the following physical changes since their previous fit test:
- Weight change (gain or loss) >5%
- Extensive dental work (including inserting implants or dentures)
- Facial surgery, trauma, or scarring
- Cosmetic procedures to face (i.e. fillers)
- Pregnancy
- Any concern with N95 mask use/fit
