Advice & Guidance

We are piloting GP access to additional support to Endocrinology & Diabetes and Gastroenterology consultants.

The Endocrinology & Diabetes and Gastroenterology services at Alfred Health are now offering Advice & Guidance (A&G) to support GPs and other primary healthcare providers to manage patients without the need for an immediate outpatient referral. Through Consultmed, healthcare providers can submit a secure, digital request and receive specialist advice and guidance through the Consultmed platform within a few days.

GPs will be able to ask questions to support management of their patient without necessarily requesting an outpatient appointment.

For urgent queries: please contact the Registrar-On-Call for Endocrinology and Diabetes or Gastroenterology, via Alfred switch via (03) 9076 2000.

To request A&G, follow these steps:

  1. Create or log in to your Consultmed account
  2. Select + New Referral button in top left
  3. From the Directory of Services, select one of the following:
    • Endocrinology and Diabetes – Advice & Guidance
    • Gastroenterology – Advice & Guidance
  4. Select the patient for whom you are requesting A&G
  5. Submit the request for A&G

An Alfred Health specialist will review and respond to your clinical question within three working days.

Once accepted, you will receive an email notification with a link to view the response within Consultmed. If your practice management software is integrated with Consultmed, the A&G request will appear in your correspondence folders.
