Alfred staff recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours
Congratulations to our own Associate Professor Edwina Wright AM, Professor Flavia Cicuttini AM and Colonel Susan Winter OAM, who were each named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list this week.
Professor Wright and Professor Cicuttini were both recognised in the General Division for significant service to medicine within their specialties. A/Prof Wright was cited for her work with people living with HIV/AIDS, while Professor Cicuttini acknowledged for her research into musculoskeletal disease.
Colonel Winter was recognised in the Military Division for service as a specialist anaesthetist and intensivist on multiple overseas deployments.
Head of Rheumatology at The Alfred, Professor Cicuttini said the award was a team effort.
“As Head of Rheumatology and the Musculoskeletal Unit, SPHPM, I would like to thank the excellent and dedicated clinical and research teams I have had the good fortune to work with over the years. These awards are given to one person but represent the work of great teams,” she said.
Infectious diseases physician and head of the HIV Prevention Service at The Alfred, A/Prof Wright said she was delighted to be recognised.
"This award equally belongs to all the people living with HIV, those at risk of HIV, my mentors, peers and colleagues,” Prof Wright said.
“The Alfred has been an amazingly supportive place where I have had the privilege to work and undertake research.”
Colonel Winter works as an ICU consultant at The Alfred as a defence force secondment.
ICU director A/Prof Steve McGloughlin said it was a great privilege and honour to work alongside Colonel Winter.
