Community gets behind dads with $1.1 million appeal
The Alfred is celebrating its most successful Father's Day Appeal ever after a massive $1,108,803 was donated to the hospital.
Chief Executive of Alfred Health, Professor Andrew Way, said he was overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.
"We set out with a target to reach $800,000 and it is with great delight that I can report we officially reached more than $1.1 million," Professor Way said.
"The generosity of our community and our sponsors is truly humbling. This result is a reflection of the longstanding impact our staff have on individuals and families, and a genuine desire to make a contribution toward the day-to-day work of our hospital. The Alfred is an incredibly important hospital to so many.
"A huge thanks also to all our staff who got behind the appeal - our IT team managed to raise more than $8500."
The GIVE4DADS appeal, which was presented by Bulla Family Dairy, kicked off at 6am on Friday with the 3AW breakfast team broadcasting from Alf's Cafe. The 3AW line-up featured a host of Alfred specialists and patients throughout the day, culminating with the Drive program. By midnight on Friday, the total was reached.
This year, for the first time, every dollar donated by the community was multiplied by four thanks to generous corporations, individuals and organisations.
Professor Way said the money will go towards buying vital new equipment at The Alfred.
"We're already looking forward to an even bigger and better event next year," he said.
