Crash survivor’s community thanks The Alfred
Two months after a car crash nearly took the life of 18-year-old Harry, he’s back to visit the intensive care unit and trauma ward where he spent two weeks recovering.
His major injuries included a fractured spine, shattered humerus and thumb, hand lacerations and a traumatic brain injury.
Thanks to the generosity of his family and their community, more than $6000 was donated to The Alfred.
During Harry’s hospital stay his sisters Lillie, Tegan and Molly and brother Ned, raised money in their local community of Stawell as a way to thank The Alfred teams for caring for their brother. They held raffles at their local football and netball club in Navarre and opened a bank account ‘look out for ya mates’ for donations.
Harry’s younger cousins Joseph, Patrick, Alice, Ava and Edward got on board with fundraising in a ‘Dry July’ inspired fashion and gave up soft drinks for the month.
The crash happened near his home in Navarre and Harry was flown to The Alfred via air ambulance – where he eventually woke from his induced coma on his mum’s 50th birthday.
It was great for everyone today to see Harry walking around the wards where he was once a patient. After undergoing multiple surgeries and just over two months after the accident, he has incredibly returned to his work as a plumber this week and is making amazing progress with his recovery.
