Emergency Department street entrance relocates ahead of redevelopment
Patients requiring urgent care now access The Alfred’s emergency department via a dedicated foot ramp along the hospital’s main Commercial Road driveway.
The relocation of the entry forms part of the preparatory work being undertaken to support the redevelopment of our Emergency and Trauma Centre, which begins early next year.
A small number of dedicated emergency department drop-off car spaces have been established in the driveway.
Director of the Eva and Les Erdi Emergency and Trauma Centre, Dr de Villiers Smit said the fresh design will support better team communication, improve clinical flow, and maximise patient privacy.
“While some disruption is expected during the build, the department will remain operational throughout and we are presently working through that plan,” Dr de Villiers said.
Further detail on this exciting redevelopment will be published in the coming weeks.
