Update on patients from White Island tragedy

Update: 10:30am 13 January

We are sad to inform that one of the three patients The Alfred received from the volcano tragedy has passed away.

Two patients continue to receive specialist burns care. One is in a stable condition. One is in a critical condition. 

 

Update: 1pm on 31 December

Three patients from the White Island volcano tragedy continue to receive specialist burns care at The Alfred.

One patient is in a stable condition. Two are in a critical condition. 

 

Update: 8:30am on 16 December 

Three patients from the White Island volcano tragedy continue to receive specialist burns care at The Alfred.

These patients remain in a critical condition.

 

Update: 2pm on 13 December

Three patients from the White Island volcano tragedy continue to receive specialist burns care at The Alfred.

These patients remain in a critical condition.

We appreciate there is significant community and media interest in the welfare of these people, however no further detail about their care or injuries will be provided at this time.

We ask that you continue to respect the privacy of these patients and their families.

 

Update: 6:50am on 13 December

The Alfred has admitted three patients from the White Island volcano tragedy.

Two patients arrived last night via Ambulance Victoria.

Patient conditions will not be provided at this time, however we will update this page with more information as it becomes available.

We ask that you please respect the privacy of our patients during this difficult time and allow our staff to provide the essential care that is required.

 

Update: 7pm on 12 December

The Alfred expects a further two patients will arrive this evening from the White Island volcano tragedy.  

One patient was admitted earlier today, around 9am. 

There will be no further updates today. This page will be updated again tomorrow morning.

Update: 3pm on 12 December

The Alfred has admitted one patient from the White Island volcano tragedy.

The patient arrived around 9am today (Thursday, 12 December) via Ambulance Victoria.

The Victorian Adult Burns Service at The Alfred treats the most complex and serious burns patients from across the state.

“The staff in our burns unit are leaders in their field, they are working with the most current materials and research to deliver the best possible outcomes for patients with severe burns,” said Associate Professor Heather Cleland, Director of the Victorian Adults Burns Service at The Alfred.

We anticipate we will receive other patients transferred from New Zealand later today.

Skin donations

We have had a number of people enquiring about skin donations, and we thank them for their generosity and support. At this stage we are not facilitating live skin donations however, if people are interested in becoming tissue donors, they can find out more information via Donate Life.
