Associate Professor James Shaw is one of the Deputy Directors of Cardiology and the Head of Cardiology General (CAGE).

Associate Professor James Shaw is an interventional cardiologist with over 20 years of experience as a consultant. His specific clinical interests include the management of coronary and non-coronary atherosclerotic disease with a specific interest in lipid management. He has published widely in this area with recent work focusing on increasing the prescribing of newer lipid lowering therapies in appropriate patients. He has published over 70 peer reviewed papers in leading cardiology journals including Circulation, Circulation Research and Journal of American College of Cardiology.

A/Prof Shaw is a very active and highly regarded educator being heavily involved in teaching cardiology at an undergraduate and post graduate level and in 2024 he won the award for the best short case educator from The Alfred basic physician trainees.

His clinical activities include diagnostic coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, non-coronary percutaneous intervention and inpatient and outpatient cardiology management as well as reporting trans thoracic echocardiograms and performing and reporting transoesophageal echocardiograms.
