Victorian Melanoma Service clinical trials
The Victorian Melanoma Service (VMS) is one of Australia’s largest multidisciplinary treatment services for melanoma. Our team of expert doctors, researchers, nurses and staff are focused on research and treatment innovations that are instrumental in changing the future of melanoma treatment.
The VMS was established in 1994 by Prof John Kelly. Through clinical trials and research, we can develop new opportunities for advancements in melanoma diagnosis and treatment.
Melanoma research is also conducted by Medical Oncology, in partnership with the Victorian Melanoma Service.
Our vision
We are committed to finding better ways to treat people with melanoma. Through clinical trials and research, we can study innovative ways to treat melanoma and find new ways to detect and prevent it.
Our focus
Research programs at the VMS have a specific focus on prevention and early detection of melanoma. We are at the forefront of ground-breaking research, including using artificial intelligence and melanoma surveillance photography.
Our achievements
- In partnership with Monash University, University of Sydney, and University of Queensland, The Alfred is the Victorian lead site for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation Australian Centre of Excellence for Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis (ACEMID). The Vectra 3D imaging machine enables collection of high quality image data that will inform improvements in the way we detect melanoma and manage patients at high risk of skin cancer.
- We have built an extensive melanoma database of over 11,000 participants. The database provides a platform for research to be undertaken. Our database is accessed by researchers to collect and analyse information with the focus on improving melanoma management.
- We have active research collaborations nationally and internationally and contribute to a number of investigator-led as well as industry-sponsored trials.
