Podiatry
Health professional information
Clinical service overview
The Alfred podiatry team service both inpatient and outpatients. Our main focus is the treatment and management of foot and ankle wounds and patients with high risk of lower limb complications.
With inpatients we aim to prevent foot and lower limb amputations by identifying patients at high risk, and implementing appropriate management plans and facilitating efficient discharge. The service will also be provided to those patients at risk of clinical deterioration due to their foot condition or those with a foot condition that is impacting discharge.
In outpatient clinics, we aim to enhance wound healing and prevent readmission.
- Podiatry outpatient clinics run Monday to Friday
- We run a Total Contact Casting Clinic to assist in managing foot ulcer and Charcot foot in joint consultation with Orthotics & Prosthetics on Wednesday afternoons
- We provide care for inpatients on vascular ward round on Monday mornings
- We provide podiatry services during the vascular clinic on Thursday afternoons
- We consult during the Orthopaedic clinic on Thursday mornings.
The Department works in close partnership with the Infectious Diseases unit, Vascular unit, Endocrinology unit, and the Orthotics & Prosthetics department.
