Virtual ED

An online, video based service that allows you to speak with emergency doctors and nurse practitioners 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Accessing treatment in an Emergency Department is not always the best option. For non-life-threatening situations, there are other services available.

If you have a non-life-threatening emergency, you can contact the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Interpreters are available.

VVED is not for emergencies and in an emergency you should always call Triple Zero (000).

The VVED is a video service that connects patients with emergency clinicians from your home, residential aged care facility or a GP clinic, free of charge.

You cannot call the VVED and you must register online. As your consultation will be via video, you will need a device with a camera to use the VVED.

  • You can register yourself if you have non-emergency symptoms and think you might need medical attention and your GP or health service might be closed or not available. These symptoms might be such as pain, vomiting, urinary infection and influenza.
  • Your GP, nurse or health service provider might refer you to VVED instead of calling an ambulance or asking you to attend an emergency department in person.
  • When you call Triple Zero (000) and ask for an ambulance, you may be directed to VVED.

If an ambulance is called and reaches you, paramedics may refer you to VVED instead of taking you to hospital.
