Alfred Health has stringent protocols in place to protect staff and patients from COVID-19. These are being reinforced across our health service as community transmission of the virus has increased and eight staff members across the health service have contracted the virus.

While Victorians were locked down under stage 3 restrictions, alcohol sales increased thirty-four per cent compared to the same time last year. Addictions psychiatrist Pat Tolan has shed some light on why the COVID-19 restrictions are causing some people to drink more - and what implications that might have post-COVID. Dr Tolan gives an insight into why he thinks increased alcohol intake is a problem and offers some suggestions of what we can do instead of drinking.

Two COVID-19 positive patients from The Alfred’s haematology and oncology ward remain in a stable condition, while 10 staff have the virus and are recovering at home.  A third patient who had tested positive for COVID-19 has now died.
